The acquisition process of Nokia by Microsoft will end by Friday, April 25th in which Nokia Oyj will be renamed Microsoft Mobile Oy( Oy means PLC in Finnish).  Originally expected to close last quarter, the $7.1 billion purchase was delayed pending regulatory approval. Nokia has been a household name in the mobile world but change they say is constant. Originally, employees at Nokia’s Chief Technology Office were to remain with Nokia; now 21 of them, working on mobile phones in China, will switch to Microsoft. Nokia will also retain its South Korean manufacturing facility rather than transferring it to Microsoft. Please note that this change will only affect the Nokia’s devices and service business. The email leak stated thus that upon the close of the transaction between Microsoft and Nokia, the name of Nokia Corporation/Nokia Oyj will change to Microsoft Mobile Oy. Microsoft Mobile Oy is the legal entity name that should be used for VAT IDs and for the issuance of invoices.”

Good thing for suppliers is that current terms and conditions that they have with the Devices and Services business will not change post deal-closure. Stephen Elop, the Nokia CEO who arrived at the company by way of Microsoft, will return to the Redmond company as part of the deal, where he will assume control of Microsoft’s hardware division. He’s just one of approximately 32,000 Nokia employees making the jump to Microsoft.

With all the focus on Windows Phone, though, one big question remains: What will Microsoft do with Nokia’s recently announced Nokia X phones, which run on a heavily modified version of Android chock full of Microsoft services?
