Noh Balcha and Fatoumata Tioye have emerged as winners in the maiden edition of the African Digital Art Challenge. They beat contenders five other finalists – Kunle Afolayan, Mariona Lloreta, Ntombi Kunye, Bumba studio and NJB Zebu v 3 EN to win the converted positions.
Noh Balcha is a 30-year old Ethiopian architect. His submission is about “looking into the future and seeing a very different Africa where we have taken care of all the difficulties we had faced in the past and have finally started thinking of other goals to pursue for the first time in our history”
While Fatoumata Tioye is a 22-year old photographer from Mali who aims to bring something positive to Africa, as an artist. She believes that African innovation is a process of change. Through her submission, she invites us, Africans, to innovate, to a change that leads us to better versions of ourselves.
By this win, the 2 winners will be invited to attend the #IPA2015 awards ceremony, where they will have the chance to network with innovators and leaders in their field. Their work will be shown at the IPA awards event venue in Morocco, and they will have the chance to continue working with AIF on the Foundation’s creative material, should they wish to.
The African Innovation Foundation (AIF) launched the African Digital Art challenge (#AfrinnovChallenge) to engage with our community and better understand how Africans perceive innovation, across Africa.
Participants were expected to submit a piece of digital art showcasing innovators or the innovation ecosystem around them, or sharing what African innovation or innovation in Africa means to them!
