The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has exposed some phony phishing websites that are circulating misleading information that the Federal Government has given its nod to the approval of the disbursement of funds under a fictitious name called “Lockdown Funds”.

The agency on Monday tweeted via its official handle disclosed that the phishers tried to direct unsuspecting Nigerians to the websites which would further direct them to fill in their details in order to benefit from the funds.

The tweets read, “The Federal Government of Nigeria is using all the necessary means and measures already in place to contain the spread of fake and malicious news in the country.

“The Agency is working round the clock to checkmate cybersecurity threats and possible data breach under Nigerian Data Protection Regulation.”

The agency further advised internet users not to give out their personal information to anyone online to avoid data breaches and check cybersecurity threats. It also warned the public against clicking unknown links and to ignore offers to request for their bank details.
