Nigerian agri-tech startup, ThriveAgric, has launched its dry season farming cycle by delivering agricultural inputs catering to over 100,000 smallholder farmers in Northern Nigeria. The aim is to facilitate the production of more than 300,000MT of grains.
Established in 2017 and fully active since 2018, ThriveAgric assists Nigerian farmers in selling their goods to fast-moving consumer goods (FMCGs) and food processors. The starting leverages its unique technology to access financing, improve productivity, and boost sales in a bid to enhance food security.
The technology, an entirely offline agricultural operating system, dispatches Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) to farmers and powers Android apps used by field agents to collate data from creditworthy farmers and gather relevant farm information.
In March 2022, ThriveAgric raised a US$56.4 million in debt financing from local commercial banks and institutional investors. Under this latest program, it will provide farmers with irrigation facilities, drought-resistant input, access to technology, storage, and high-end markets to boost output in this farming cycle.
