A gift card company founded by former employees of Jumia Nigeria, SureGifts, has expanded to Kenya. The launch of SureGifts Kenya, will enable users to gift their loved ones and reward employees, clients and customers with the most simple and functional product: gift cards from some of the best local and international brands in Kenya.

SureGifts allows one to purchase gifts instantly and electronically and have them delivered to their loved ones or employees. The gifts are customized with special designs, videos and messages, making gifting easy and convenient and not a time-consuming move.

Co-Founder of the company, Olaoluwa Samuel-Biyi, told TechMoran: “Nigeria was our first market because of its size and because it’s home for us, but Kenya is the natural next destination. The market is very accepting of technology and very ripe for our product because of the great penetration of organized retail and sophisticated payment systems.”

Olaoluwa says SureGifts is launching with a carefully selected list of about 20 merchants, including online stores like Jumia and utility service providers like Safaricom. It’s vouchers are delivered electronically via e-mail or SMS. and customers can go and redeem them at the specific stores.

Customers, he said, often send electronic vouchers because they are instant, free, and allows them so many personalization options. The firm also delivers physical gift cards, but primarily to corporate organizations gifting employees or clients.

The firm is integrated with M-PESA and accepts payment via M-PESA, Airtel Money, debit/credit cards on its platform.

Olaoluwa says both Nigerian and Kenyan markets are quite similar but was  quite impressed at the ubiquitous use of mobile payments in Kenya.

“It’s more profound than what you read in the news,”Olaoluwa says about mobile money use in Kenya. SureGifts earns a commision from its partner merchants for driving more sales to them. SureGifts is not a discounts site and only sells gift cards. However, its customers can sometimes find great deal/discounts on its vouchers on its social media channels.
