Nigeria’s first ride sharing app Jekalo launched in Lagos

JEKALO, an online platform where you can share a ride with someone going along the same route as you has been launched (and available only) in Lagos. Whether you are a ride owner or a passenger, JEKALO is a convenient and affordable way to get home in the evening, to your next meeting or for after-work drinks.

If you own a ride, you can earn rewards by offering rides and for the days you do not want to drive, you can always join someone else’s ride.

The major issue now is that of safety and the developers said they’ve sorted that out with member verification.

“All members on JEKALO are verified and ride offers are screened before being published,” the said in a statement.

To celebrate the launch, the first 30 rides via the app are free, after which fees for joining a ride will be calculated based on distance.

“The amazing thing is, the amount you pay on JEKALO is about the same price as using a commercial bus and cheaper than a taxi,” they said.

Also, for every successful ride starting, ride owners will earn points that can be used to redeem cash, fuel vouchers, airtime vouchers, mobile data and more.

They described their app as an innovation, only time will tell if the market really needs it.
