Nigerian Startup Dropque has launched a one way video interviewing platform to help companies create their interviews (also called selfies interviews) and invite candidates to respond to them anywhere with timed video responses unassisted and unsupervised.
Launched last year, the platform allows interviews to be conducted anywhere, at anytime.
Speaking in an interview with Innovation Village, Co-Founder and CEO, Opeyemi Akinwoleola said, “We started Dropque as a solution for youth unemployment and the thorny talent problem companies face today.
“We strongly believe that talent is everywhere but opportunity is limited and we want to use Dropque to bridge that gap between opportunity and talent. This we believe will help reduce youth unemployment.”
Interestingly, Dropque has received good traction has it has signed up over 100 companies and interviewed thousands of Nigerians.
“We have signed up a total of 114 companies with thousands of Nigerians already taken interviews,” Akinwoleola said.
The startup claims it cuts recruitment time by 50percent by reducing the time it takes to schedule and conduct face-to-face interviews.
Speaking on the uniqueness of the platform, the Co-Founder said, “Our system makes interviews an on demand activity with a reduction in time spent hiring and cost to hire the primary benefit.”
While speaking on the achievements so far since launch, Akinweola said, “We have raised investment(undisclosed) from the Meltwater Entrepreneurial school of technology, being a part of Google’s Africa Mentorship programme (Launchpad), pitched at the Africa technology Summit and were part of HYBR’s first scaleup bootcamp.
On challenges encountered since launch, he said,“One of the initial difficulties we faced from recruiters was the thought that candidates would never take an interview like this. We have not seen that yet from the candidate side as candidates gladly take the interviews and avoid long commutes, while actually being able to show their capabilities and skills as well as share their unique stories.”
The co-founder while advising aspiring entrepreneurs charged them to build something now. He went further by counseling them to build something regardless of what it is and stressed the need to have paying customers hence they need to build something people will buy.
Speaking on the plans for the future Akinwoleola disclosed, “We are bent on building a globally successful company and will be expanding Dropque in the West African region with our sights set on making recruitment easier for the candidates and the recruiters throughout africa subsequently.”
