Nigerian online livestock platform Livestock247.com has launched in Lagos to connect stakeholders in the livestock business.
The one-stop shop for livestock will connect dealers, buyers, ranchers, veterinary doctors, vet stores, butcheries/abattoirs, haulage, logistics companies, and financial service providers.
It also seeks to provide more effective and convenient ways of conducting the livestock business across every stratum of the industry.
Commenting on the platform, Chief Executive Officer of Livestock247.com, Ibrahim Maigari said, “We are trying to resolve every challenge in this sector and bring everyone in the business closer so that the issues can be resolved faster and healthier livestock will find their way to consumers.”
The CEO also disclosed that he was inspired to set up the platform in a bid to fill the chasm and make the industry better for every stakeholder.
Maigari also stated that the platform will positively impact and change the livestock business. Aside from connecting the stakeholders in the industry, Livestock247.com will actively be involved in livestock disease prevention and control.
As a vision the platform will endeavour to mitigate the spread of zoonotic diseases with the listing of only fit-for-slaughter and traceable livestock on the platform to address on the challenge posed by a World Organisation of Animal Health Countries (OIE) report that 60 percent of existing human infectious diseases were transmitted from animals.
According to Maigari, Livestock247.com will motivate the private sector to participate in the production and structuring of the livestock market in Nigeria which for now is largely primitive.
The CEO also reckoned that the livestock industry impacts over 90% of the Nigerian population and would seek to modernize mode of operation and control livestock entry into the market to ensure only healthy ones are put up for sale.
Speaking on traction, Maigari said, “ Integrity and patronage will build over time once people begin to see the value proposition and how it improves their business.”
