This year, the Nigerian Government via the Country’s Ministry of Communication Technology has revealed plans to connect 50 percent of its population to 3G broadband. Nigeria’s ICT Ministry intends on achieving this through the “Wireless Broadband Infrastructure Upgrade and Expansion Phase 1,” which is under Nigeria’s National Broadband Plan 2013-2018.
The plan was submitted by the Presidential Committee on Broadband to President Goodluck Jonathan in the second quarter of 2013. The objective is to establish 3rd generation telecommunication network infrastructure to support 3G services.
The Ministry of Communication Technology will govern the compatibility of new mobile sites in terms of LTE and manage the digital dividend spectrum migration and application, and will also articulate measures for complete digital dividend spectrum migration and release more spectrum for LTE through the NCC.
