In the latest Speedtest Global Index conducted by Ookla, Nigeria ranks 101 for mobile and 110 for fixed broadband.
The Speedtest Global Index compares internet speed data from around the world on a monthly basis. Data for the Index comes from the hundreds of millions of tests taken by real people using Speedtest every month.
Internet measurements made with Speedtest occur at the times and in the places that are most relevant to the person taking the test. Each time a test is initiated, a snapshot of what the internet looks like in that place and time is recorded. When aggregated together, these individual experiences represent the typical internet performance for a given location.
To be included in the Index, countries must have more than 3,333 unique user test results for fixed broadband and more than 670 unique user test results for mobile in the reported month. Results are updated at the beginning of each month for the previous month.
The Index ranks Norway as number 1 for mobile and Singapore number 1 for fixed broadband. The highest ranked African country for mobile is Morocco at number 66 and Madagascar for fixed broadband at number 60.
Ookla suggests that the stats could be used to “uncover trends and detect potential storylines”
“We hope you’ll come to see Speedtest Global Index as a go-to resource for global internet performance data. Take this data and use it to tell stories that help make the internet faster in your home country and around the world.”
“We’ll update Speedtest Global Index with data based on the previous month at the beginning of every month so you’ll have fresh statistics and an early eye on new developments.”

Should I say congratulations or what. Nigeria ranked 101 in the speedtest. Nigeria needs to improve.
I’m not surprised. Network connection, browsing speed, is so poor in Nigeria. Maybe the fault lies with the network providers, I don’t know. For instance, it takes up to 7 to 8 secs to load innovation-village.com article on the Airtel network I’m using for browsing. This isn’t fast enough for me. I’ll gladly be delighted to see a happy ending to this.
