Nigeria’s Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (FMSTI) has partnered with US-based tech firm Afri-Tech United to embark on a groundbreaking cloud migration initiative. This ambitious project aims to modernise the country’s infrastructure, optimise both public and private sectors, and propel Nigeria into a new era of technological leadership.
The centerpiece of this collaboration is the development of a “Master Cloud Platform.” This platform, envisioned by Afri-Tech United, promises to be a game-changer for Nigeria’s digital landscape. According to Jacob Uwah, Afri-Tech United’s lead partner and a Nigerian IT expert, the platform will elevate the country’s “cyber sophistication” and put it at the forefront of global technological advancements.
Uwah emphasised the collaborative nature of this project. He revealed that Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Uche Nnaji spent months working closely with the Afri-Tech United team to design the optimal approach for Nigeria’s digital transformation. This meticulous planning phase resulted in the framework for the Master Cloud Platform.
The benefits of this cloud migration initiative extend far beyond infrastructure upgrades. Minister Nnaji highlighted the project’s alignment with the current administration’s goal of creating two million tech jobs annually. This initiative aims to empower Nigerian youth and address unemployment challenges.
The vision goes beyond job creation. The Master Cloud Platform is also expected to lay the groundwork for Afri-Tech United’s future Innovation Center. This center, designed to surpass existing Nigerian tech hubs, will offer unparalleled access to cutting-edge technologies like machine learning, artificial intelligence, and robotics.
Minister Nnaji expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “We’re investing in more than technology; we’re investing in Nigeria’s future.” He envisions Nigeria as a leader in the global “cyber renaissance,” not just a participant. This ambitious project signifies Nigeria’s commitment to progress and its desire to establish itself as a major player on the world’s technological stage.
