In a recently released report by Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Nigeria now has 105.2 million active phone lines as at August 2012. Out of this number, Mobile GSM accounts for 101.4 lines (96.4%). The report also states that teledensity has increased to 75.17% in August 2012 from 73.88% in July 2012.
Even though the number of active lines has increased, the quality of service has deteriorated as the incidence of dropped calls has increased across the 3 main GSM networks – MTN, Airtel and Glo. This is also not unconnected with the plethora of promotions running such as “the win a plane promo from MTN“, the “billion Naira credit from Etisalat“, the “made4life promo from Glo“
Hope the networks are considering this increase in subscribers and ensuring that the network capacity is enough to cope with the increase.
