The Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT) has strengthened its partnership with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to enhance the protection of the nation’s digital and satellite assets.
The collaboration was reaffirmed during a strategic visit by an NSCDC delegation led by FCT Commandant Olusola Odumosu to NIGCOMSAT’s headquarters in Abuja. The engagement underscored the growing role of satellite technology in bolstering national security and advancing Nigeria’s digital transformation.
Harnessing Satellite Technology for Security and Safety
The meeting, chaired by Dr. Nkechi Amadi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NIGCOMSAT, focused on exploring how satellite communications can be applied to strengthen surveillance, improve intelligence sharing, and enhance emergency response coordination across the country.
Both organizations emphasized the need for stronger inter-agency collaboration to safeguard Nigeria’s critical communication infrastructure from cyber and physical threats.
Dr. Amadi reaffirmed NIGCOMSAT’s commitment to providing secure and resilient satellite services that power essential sectors such as defense, education, and public administration. She noted that a secure satellite infrastructure forms the backbone of Nigeria’s digital economy and supports the government’s broader drive toward technological self-reliance.
Commitment to Protecting Critical Assets
The NSCDC, in its remarks, pledged continuous support in protecting NIGCOMSAT’s satellite facilities and ensuring uninterrupted operations. Commandant Odumosu highlighted that protecting the nation’s digital infrastructure is central to maintaining public safety and national stability.
Advancing Nigeria’s Digital Future
The partnership aligns with the Federal Government’s vision to foster collaboration among key agencies and integrate cutting-edge technologies into national security operations.
Through joint initiatives, NIGCOMSAT and NSCDC aim to enhance surveillance capabilities, ensure real-time data access for emergency response teams, and promote the safe use of satellite-driven innovations across sectors.
The visit, officials noted, marks another milestone in Nigeria’s journey toward building a secure, connected, and technology-driven nation.
