It is now possible for bank customers that have enrolled for their Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) to request for the number from the Nigerian Interbank Settlement Scheme (NIBSS) by dialing *565*0# on any networks as long as they use the telephone numbers submitted by the bank customers during the initial enrollment exercise.
Announcing the development, NIBSS said the innovation would enhance enrolment and notification of BVN.
At the event where the official announcement was made, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NIBSS, Ade Shonubi said that the partnership is about working with the networks to make sure that bank customers get their BVNs.
For now, he said only Etisalat and Airtel have indicated interest in the partnership, adding that NIBSS is however hopeful that MTN and Globacom will soon be part of it. He added that the partnership is about the convenience of those who have gone out to go and have their biometric captured. It is also a delivery of part of the promises made by NIBSS to improve process of enrolment for the BVN.
“The partnership allows bank customers that have enrolled for the BVN to use their telephone number to request for their BVN from NIBSS by dialling the code *565*0# on any of the GSM telecommunications network,” he said. “Once the customer sends dial the code, he would receive an SMS containing his BVN.”
For bank customers who are yet to receive their BVN, the NIBSS boss said they would receive a SMS which indicate that their BVN is not yet available, and a telephone number to make complaints or enquiries
