WhatsApp is developing a new beta feature that allows users to provide personalised context for forwarded messages, enhancing the clarity and usefulness of shared content.
For example, if you’re forwarding a PDF document containing a meeting agenda to multiple colleagues, you can add a custom description like “Today’s meeting agenda – please review” to give context to the file.
Similarly, if you’re sharing a holiday photo with friends, you can include a caption such as “Sunset at the beach in Bali – wish you were here!” to offer more information about the image.
This feature aims to save users time and effort when sharing files with several people, as the custom descriptions will eliminate the need for individual follow-up messages to explain the content.
Instead of having to send individual messages to each recipient explaining the content, users can now add a custom description or caption for the file that will be visible to all recipients.
With this personalised context, recipients can better understand the purpose or background of the shared files, ensuring smoother communication on the popular messaging platform.
The feature was introduced in the recent v2.22.23.15 update, which enabled users to add captions to images, videos, and documents when forwarding them to multiple recipients.
Now, the latest v2.23.8.22 beta version expands this feature, allowing users to replace the auto-generated file description with their own text to better describe the shared content.
As reported by WABetaInfo, the new beta feature functions similarly to file captions, but sends the custom description as a separate message to the same list of recipients who are receiving the document, image, GIF, or video.
This ensures that everyone has a clear understanding of the shared content, without the need for the sender to provide additional information to each person individually.
Currently, this feature is being rolled out gradually to beta testers via the Google Play Store. However, it is worth noting that there may be some issues with viewing status updates and downloading videos in this version of the app.
If you are interested in trying out the latest beta version of WhatsApp, you can download it from APK Mirror. Hence, keep an eye out for it in future updates, as it has the potential to make communication on the popular messaging platform even more efficient and user-friendly.
