Twitter has revealed new information about the upcoming version of its API, including pricing details. Previously, Twitter had postponed changes to its developer features after announcing that it would be banning third-party clients.
The company will continue to offer a free tier with limited functionality, aimed primarily at bots and testing purposes. Accounts on this tier will be able to post up to 1,500 tweets per month, but will not have access to any additional features. While this may benefit some of Twitter’s bot accounts, it may be too restrictive for those who post more frequently.
For developers willing to pay $100 per month, a new “basic” tier will be available. This tier will allow users to post up to 3,000 tweets per month at the user level and up to 50,000 tweets per month at the app level. It also offers a read limit of 10,000 tweets per month, significantly less than what was previously offered.
Finally, an enterprise tier is intended for businesses that require higher access levels. However, details on this tier are still vague, and pricing information has not been disclosed.
According to Twitter’s developer website, the enterprise tier will provide “commercial-level access that meets your and your customer’s specific needs” and other features. Businesses may apply for enterprise access, but the only information available is that it will be offered at monthly subscription tiers.
