Instagram has released a live test of a feature that allows you to pin pictures to your profile for some accounts. Salman Memon, researcher and coder, shared a piece of evidence on Twitter, demonstrating how some Instagram users can now select the ‘Pin to Your Profile’ option on their IG posts, allowing them to dock their selected posts to the top of their profile display’s post grid.
This is something you can already do just by uploading your pictures to Stories and then using the Stories Highlights feature. The only difference is you now have the ability to highlight certain elements (of the pinned posts) in a different way, with a top listing of three posts shown to all profile visitors. This allows you to highlight key elements such as special offers, product displays, and your best performing posts, among others.
Instagram’s “Pin To Your Profile” has been in development for a while; an early version was reported by Leaker and Reverse Engineer, Alessandro Paluzzi. “Instagram is working on the ability to pin posts in your profile,” Paluzzi said, in January with an update one month later.
Paluzzi tweeted the above prototype of the IG grid, which he claimed would allow users to pin up to three posts to the top of their feed. Also being tested is the ability to rearrange the photos in your profile gallery in whatever way you want, regardless of when they were originally uploaded to the platform. Now, this might result in increased creative capability and control, which could be a significant advantage for Instagram marketers.
Instagram has not specified a date for the full distribution of these new features, but CEO Adam Mosseri has stated that they are in the testing phase and maybe on your profile soon.
