Mobile phones are getting better and better at automatically backing up data. But there are chances that an individual may likely lose his or her phone or it gets damaged completely. Fortunately, there are ways you can back up this data so that even if your phone breaks down, you don’t lose all your pictures, videos, and documents. We will show you how to properly protect your phone from data loss from Google, third-party apps, or your computer.
How to Use Google to Backup Files On Your Android Phone
Backing up the majority of your data is actually rather simple with Google, and it has gotten a lot better in recent years. Sadly, Google does not yet provide a one-stop backup solution for Android users, although there are methods for backing up various data kinds. Please note that these options do not include SMS.
Photos and Videos
If you haven’t already, you need to start utilising Google Photos. Why? Because the free tool backs up every photograph you take and uploads them to the cloud. With that you don’t have to worry about saving them manually. You can download it on Play Store and after you’ve installed it, ensure you set it to automatically backup your files. To turn this on, open the app, and in the Settings menu, select Backup & sync.
Other Files
Google Drive allows you to save your other files on the cloud, making them available from any connected device. Follow these steps to manually upload folders and files:
- If you don’t already have it, get the Google Drive app.
- Press the Plus button on the app.
- Click the Upload button.
- Choose the file(s) you want to backup.
- That’s all!
Settings and Apps
You’ll want to use Google’s backup option to back up your phone’s settings and apps. This helps to back up the apps you use as well as the settings you’ve chosen in most Google apps, so as to restore your settings on a new phone. To activate it, follow the steps below:
- Open the Settings app on your phone.
- Scroll down and select Google. Next Backup.
- Toggle on the Back up to Google Drive option and, if it isn’t already there, add your account.
Google One is another option:
- Install and launch the Google One app.
- Navigate to the Storage tab.
- Locate your phone in the Device Backup section by scrolling down.
- Choose Backup options.
- Toggle the data you want to backup.
Contacts and More
Google also makes it incredibly simple to personalise all of your contacts by leveraging its own cloud services. To secure contacts, use the steps detailed below.
- Launch the Settings app, and select Accounts.
- Choose your preferred Google account.
- Navigate to Account sync.
- Select Contacts from the drop-down menu (and any other service you wish to).
- That’s all there is to it! Your device should now be completely backed up. Unless, of course, you prefer to use a third-party service rather than Google’s own.
