Netflix has announced it has partnered with Sennheiser, a German privately-held audio company to bring spatial audio to its members around the world. Sennheiser specializes in the design and production of a wide range of high-fidelity products, including microphones, headphones, telephone accessories, and aviation headsets for personal, professional and business applications
Netflix said, “Often, the subtlety of sound goes unnoticed, but it can have a profound impact on the atmosphere of a scene and fundamentally change the audience’s response. Some of the most iconic moments in TV and film are defined by the immersive moments they create through sound.”
Netflix spatial audio helps to translate the cinematic experience of immersive audio to any stereo, so the work creators do to bring you into the story happens no matter what device you use to watch Netflix.
Spatial audio will roll out across Netflix’s catalog beginning on Thursday and viewers can hear it themselves by typing “spatial audio” into the search bar and selecting a show or film that supports it in the search results.
This magical combination of sight and sound will bring viewers closer to the story, and “we’re excited to add this capability to other features we support like 4K, HDR, Dolby Atmos, and Netflix Calibrated Mode,” the company added.
Netflix overtime has continued to work to ensure the best experience in terms of the quality of output for its members globally. In 2021, the company acquired Scanline VFX, one of the most creative and innovative VFX studios in the world to enhance its special effects. Also, in January of the same year, Netflix enhanced the audio experience on Android devices enabling streaming using xHE-AAC on Android devices.
