Netflix has pledged to improve local access to and quality of streaming services for over 100M people. The streaming service, a member of the P2C Digital Coalition, hopes to achieve this by forging a partnership with neutral internet exchange points and data centers to deploy content caching servers in Least Developed Countries (LDC), Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
This week, Netflix announced at this year’s Partner2Connect (P2C) Digital Development Roundtable continued efforts to collaborate with internet service providers to make stories made globally more locally accessible.
Netflix aims and expects to achieve 80%+ of content streamed locally in these communities, reducing the cost to backbone networks, driving demand for high speed broadband, and enabling the development of essential components of the digital economy.
The internet is as dynamic as the people who depend on it, whether it’s used to watch entertainment or for their everyday needs. Where P2C and Netflix’ missions align are in seeing the ties that bind internet access and the content people use the internet to enjoy. Connecting the unconnected is a goal that no single organization can achieve alone.

The Netflix Open Connect program aims to provide millions of Netflix subscribers the highest-quality viewing experience.
“We achieve this goal by collaborating with Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to deliver our content more efficiently. We partner with over a thousand ISPs to localize substantial amounts of traffic with Open Connect Appliance embedded deployments, and we have an open peering policy at our interconnection locations.,” Turner added.
