    Netflix officially launches its Nigerian Twitter account #NetflixNaija celebrating Nollywood

    Media streaming giant Netflix has officially opened a Nigerian Twitter account, Netflix Naija @NetflixNaija

    To celebrate the unveiling of its Twitter account, it tweeted a post “N is for Naija. N is for Nollywood. N is the 14th alphabet. 14 is also how many great talents you’re looking at. N is for Netflix. But most importantly…hello, Nigeria!” with a picture of Ted Sarandos, Netflix chief content officer and some of Nollywood finest actors and actresses including Adesua Etomi-Wellington, Banky Wellington, Akin Omotoso, Kemi Adetiba, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Kunle Afolayan, Kate Henshaw, Omoni Oboli and Mo Abudu, among others.

    In 2018, Netflix purchased the first Netflix original film from Nigeria when it bought worldwide rights to Genevieve Nnaji’s film, Lionheart.

    Accoridng to Business Insider, Netflix is also said to be investing more into Nollywood and is currently developing two unnamed original series from Nigeria.

    As at Q4, 2019, Netflix reported that it has over 167 million paid subscribers. Of these, 61 million accounts were registered in the US, with the remaining 106.1 million (63%) spread over the rest of the globe.
