Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, is getting into the animation world, with Netflix also confirming such new developments that it’s working on developing a new animated series with Meghan and Archewell Productions, the production outfit founded by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. According to a press release, the series, tentatively titled “Pearl,” and will be about the adventures of a 12-year-old girl, who is “inspired by a variety of influential women from history.”

Meghan in a statement said: “Like many girls her age, our heroine Pearl is on a journey of self-discovery as she tries to overcome life’s daily challenges. I’m thrilled that Archewell Productions, partnered with the powerhouse platform of Netflix, and these incredible producers, will together bring you this new animated series, which celebrates extraordinary women throughout history.” Meghan will serve as an executive producer, alongside David Furnish (“Rocketman”) and others. “David Furnish and I have been eager to bring this special series to light, and I am delighted we are able to announce it today,” she added.

Amanda Rynda (“DC Super Hero Girls”) had boarded the project as showrunner and executive producer. Megan Casey, director of original animation at Netflix, described the project as one that “weaves together fantasy and history.” “Pearl” would be the first animated series from Harry and Meghan’s Archewell Productions. The pair is already working with Netflix on a docuseries about the Invictus Games. Meghan recently published her first children’s book, “The Bench.”

The duke and duchess struck a deal with Netflix after they quit their royal duties and moved to California last year. Pearl is the second show from the Netflix deal that Meghan and the Duke of Sussex signed last year after Heart Of Invictus, a docuseries about the Invictus Games, with Harry both appearing and serving as executive producer.

No date has been given for the launch of Pearl.

The couple are also creating content podcasts for Spotify.
