Netflix today announced the launch of its first games worldwide as it looks to break into the game subscription market.
The company rolled out five mobile games today namely: Stranger Things: 1984 (BonusXP), Stranger Things 3: The Game (BonusXP), Shooting Hoops (Frosty Pop), Card Blast (Amuzo & Rogue Games), and Teeter Up (Frosty Pop).
Netflix said, “While this is just the beginning of a long journey, we’re excited to provide a gaming experience that is differentiated from what is available today – exclusive mobile games with no ads, no in-app payments, included with your Netflix membership.”
The company also revealed that it has diverse kinds of games to suit the cravings of its subscribers.
“Whether you’re craving a casual game you can start from scratch or an immersive experience that lets you dig deeper into your favorite stories, we want to begin to build a library of games that offers something for everyone. We’re in the early days of creating a great gaming experience, and we’re excited to take you on this journey with us,” wrote Mike Verdu, VP Game Development.
This is not the first Netflix is getting into the gaming industry. In 2019, the company unveiled games based on its shows while in July it announced it will be offering video games on its service from 2022.
The mobile games are currently available on Android devices and all you need to access them is a Netflix subscription. The games are available to players around the world as they come in many of the languages the company offers on service.
Also, Members will be able to play games on multiple mobile devices on the same account. “If you hit your device limit— we’ll let you know and, if needed, you can sign out of devices, not in use or deactivate them remotely on Netflix.com to free up a slot,” noted the company.
For safety concerns, the games are not available on kids’ profiles.
While some mobile games may require an internet connection, others will be available to play offline, to make those long trips and areas with bad Wi-Fi a lot more tolerable.
