Netflix has jumped to the rescue of one of the oldest and most unique theaters in New York.
Netflix has announced that it has signed a lease to keep the Paris Theater. The theater had shut its doors for the last time this past August.
The Paris Theater is New York’s sole remaining single screen theater.
It’s still unclear what Netflix plans to use the theater for beyond special events and screenings, as well as showing its own movies.

Netflix has previously screened films such as The Irishman and The King in order to qualify them for the prestigious Oscars film awards.
Earlier this year Netflix had been in negotiations to take over the historic Egyptian Theater in Los Angeles,
Netflix has also looked into buying a small chain of theaters, the likes of Landmark Theaters.
The move to rescue struggling historical theaters is geared towards establishing better relations with older filmmakers.
