Nedbank enters the mobile market with new MVNO

Nedbank, one of South Africa’s largest banks, has officially entered the mobile telecommunications space, becoming the latest non-telecom brand to launch a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO). Branded as Nedbank Connect, the service is powered by MTN South Africa’s established mobile infrastructure and is exclusively available to Nedbank clients with current or savings accounts.

The new offering is designed to be flexible, affordable, and fully digital, with month-to-month plans that require no contracts, no cancellation penalties, and no need for physical paperwork or branch visits. Clients can manage everything, from activation to plan customization, through a streamlined digital platform.

Nedbank Connect introduces aggressively priced voice and data packages, starting at just R169 per month for a plan that includes unlimited calls, unlimited SMSes, and 3GB of data. Larger bundles are also available, with options scaling up to 20GB.

In addition to predefined plans, users can opt for a build-your-own plan feature, allowing them to tailor their mobile usage by selecting custom combinations of data, minutes, and SMSes. Upon activation, every new user receives R100 in free airtime, which can be used at their discretion.

A standout feature of Nedbank Connect is its group plan capability, which enables users to manage up to 10 SIM cards under a single account. This is particularly beneficial for families, small businesses, and community groups, offering centralized control over usage and spend. Real-time monitoring ensures transparency and budget management across all connected lines.

Nedbank emphasized that this focus on group and family plans responds to a growing demand for shared connectivity solutions that are both cost-effective and easy to manage.

Nedbank Connect also includes a range of value-added services:

    • Greenbacks Rewards Integration: Clients earn ongoing airtime rewards based on usage through Nedbank’s loyalty programme.
    • eSIM and Physical SIM Support: Users can choose between digital or physical SIM cards.
    • Flexible SIM Delivery Options: SIM cards can be delivered or collected in-branch.
    • Digital Management Tools: Full online control over SIM registration, activation, top-ups, and plan adjustments.
    • Unlimited Communication: Selected preset plans offer unlimited calls and SMSes.
