    Naspers’ PriceCheck shortlisted as finalist in Blackberry’s App of the Year

    Naspers‘ PriceCheck has been shortlisted as one of the 3 finalists in the App of the Year Category alongside iks‘ Cooklet and Hoyts Argentina’s Cine Hoyts in the Blackberry Achievement Awards.

    The BlackBerry Achievement Awards (formerly the Wireless Achievement Awards) aim to recognize the cutting-edge contributions of creative thinkers, from all corners of the globe. The awards bring together a community of exceptional businesses, entrepreneurs and developers who push the boundaries of what’s possible, inspiring others to take advantage of all things BlackBerry.

    PriceCheck is Africa’s leading Price Comparison site. It is present in South Africa and has recently open office in Nigeria. It is the only app from an African based company in the various categories of the Blackberry Achievement Awards for 2013.

    PriceCheck Mobile for BlackBerry 10 takes shopping to a whole new level by using a BlackBerry® 10 smartphone to do the legwork and price comparisons, so customers don’t have to be near a computer or store. The app accesses pricing for more than 30 million products on sale through the Internet and online stores in South Africa. Built using HTML5 and JavaScript® source code, the app is wrapped with Cascades™ and uses some feature plug-ins.

    Other categories include:

    • Putting Customers First;
    • Mobile Innovation of the Year;
    • Making the World a better place; and 
    • Entrepreneur of the Year

    Nominations are judged based on the following evaluation criteria:

    • Innovative use of mobile technology (30%)
    • Measurable business impact (30%)
    • Business case (40%)

    Voting began on Thursday, March 28, 2013 and will continue until 5:00 pm Eastern Time on Monday, April 15, 2013. Winners will be notified on or about Tuesday, April 16, 2013 and will be officially announced at BlackBerry Live™ 2013. The winner in each category will be the finalist with the largest number of votes.

    Each Category Award Winner stands to get a prize package, comprising of the following:

    • One (1) plane ticket (up to a maximum value $10,000 USD) to BlackBerry Live 2013, which will be held in Orlando, Florida from May 14-16, 2013 (“BlackBerry Live 2013”); one (1) single occupancy hotel room accommodations for up to four (4) nights and five (5) days with three (3) full conference passes to BlackBerry Live 2013 for representatives of the winning Participant1;
    • Five (5) BlackBerry® 10 smartphones for use by the winning Participant2, AND
    • BlackBerry Solution Services Package, comprising of: 

    BlackBerry Training:

    Winners receive two (2) days of any BlackBerry Training currently offered by Research In Motion® (RIM) to be used onsite at your location. Both days of training must be redeemed at the same time and all training must be delivered in consecutive days. Onsite training is for a maximum of twelve (12) people.     BlackBerry Certification Program:
    Twelve (12) BlackBerry Certification exam vouchers for redemption on any BlackBerry Certification Program series BlackBerry certification exams.
