Is Naspers planning to sell Allegro? Well Bloomberg seems to think so. In a recent report, it states that the African media giant is planning to sell the Polish online auction website, Allegro.
This is the first rumoured sale of the entity. Reuters reported last year that the Cape Town-based company was planning to sell its Polish operations, including Allegro, Eastern Europe’s largest web auction service.
Bloomberg reports that the global internet and entertainment group has hired Morgan Stanley to advise on a potential disposal and this could fetch as much as $3 billion including debt.
The $60 billion company is exploring a sale of Allegro after receiving interest from potential buyers, and may sell because the unit isn’t growing as fast as some of its other businesses, one of the people said. The process is at an early stage and there’s no guarantee a sale will go ahead, they said.
Allegro is the no. 1 e-commerce platform in eastern Europe with more than 14 million monthly users.
