Musiccloud.com.ng is a new service that seeks to assist upcoming musicians by providing a free platform to share their music tracks online. Founded by two young entrepreneurs, Ability Elijah (CEO) and Light Nduka (Product Manager), Musiccloud.com.ng will provide a platform where artistes can upload their tracks and share as well. Each artiste will have a free webpage with a domain extension to his/her stage name.
According to the founders, “No company is dedicated to help scale upcoming artiste in Nigeria. There are quite a numerous amount of artiste who aren’t buoyant enough to pay up their tracks online – so we are taking up this responsibility to offer them a free service for a period of time and after that we wouldn’t divert into charging huge for space. 200mb for 10mb space will do and consecutively.”
When asked what differentiated this service from other similar services, this is what they had to say; “Actually, I won’t say there are similar businesses in Nigeria going our route. And even if there is any; then we are different at what we do and aim to continue at that. Most of the similar United State services we’ve seen few upcoming artiste use in Nigeria, are strictly social services. Meanwhile Musiccloud is just a straight to point business – Signup, upload, and share, plus a free music website. We wanted to build a Soundcloud kind of service before we later discovered there isn’t such market for now.
Though offering a free service to artistes, Musiccloud intends to make money by
- selling space;
- yearly charges for adding domain extension to the website
- Audio Adverts
- Introducing upcoming artistes to top Nigerian recording labels.
However it adds that they will only sell space after the artistes have exhausted their 10MB free space.
The site is in beta stage and will go full blast on the 6th of December at a public launch in Port-harcourt, Nigeria.
