The operator of DStv and GOtv has had to revert to its previous subscription rates following a court order. Initially, the company increased its subscription fees in May, citing economic pressures. However, the court later ruled that the price hike was unwarranted.
It has been reported that the increased prices led to the loss of over a million subscribers in Nigeria, as customers turned away from DStv in response to the higher costs.
The company’s decision to raise prices was an attempt to counteract the effects of soaring inflation and the weakening of the Nigerian naira. Despite these economic challenges, the company is now compelled to return to its former pricing structure.
- DStv Premium is ₦29,500 (down from ₦37,000)
- Compact+ is ₦19,800 (down from ₦25,000)
- Compact Bouquet is ₦12,500 (down from ₦15,700)
- Confam is ₦7,400 (down from ₦9,300)
- Yanga is ₦4,200 (down from ₦5,100)
- Padi is ₦2,950 (down from ₦3,600).
- For GOtv, the new lower prices are:
- Super+ is ₦12,500 (down from ₦15,700)
- Super is ₦7,600 (down from ₦9,600)
- Max is ₦5,700
- Joli is ₦3,950
- Jinja is ₦2,700 (down from ₦3,300).
The response of MultiChoice to the court’s directive regarding the provision of a free month’s subscription remains uncertain. While the company is considering its options, it has indicated intentions to contest the court’s decision, stating that the ruling is not in harmony with its established business model.
