MTN Uganda, through the MTN Foundation, has commissioned a fully inclusive ICT laboratory at St. Mary Goretti Ngetta Girls Primary School in Lira City — a milestone initiative aimed at advancing digital inclusion and equal learning opportunities for all children in the Lango sub-region.
Developed in partnership with Lira City leaders and Sense International, the new facility is designed to serve both general learners and children with disabilities. It features assistive learning software, sound amplifiers, printers, and free internet access for one year, enabling all 970 pupils — including 76 learners with special needs — to participate meaningfully in the digital learning space.
The project is part of MTN Uganda Foundation’s UGX 1 billion Digital Access Project, which targets the establishment of 11 ICT laboratories across the country, five of which are fully inclusive. The initiative reinforces MTN’s commitment to bridging the digital divide while supporting UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) — ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education for all.
Speaking at the commissioning, Brian Kagwisagye, MTN Uganda’s Regional Business Manager, emphasized that the company’s vision goes beyond connectivity. “Every child deserves access to digital tools that can empower them to learn, innovate, and thrive,” he said.
Local leaders, including the Lira City Education Officer, praised the project for its direct contribution to improving learning outcomes and promoting inclusion. The LC1 Representative of Lira City described the ICT lab as “a light for the future of Lira,” pledging community support to sustain and expand its reach.
Through initiatives like this, MTN Uganda continues to show how technology can be a force for social transformation — breaking barriers, nurturing digital skills, and ensuring that no learner is left behind. The Foundation’s broader mission remains clear: to make digital access a right, not a privilege, for every Ugandan child.
