Nigeria’s largest telecoms company MTN has said it spends about NGN8 billion annually on diesel due to the non-availability of stable electricity supply from the national power company.
According to MTN Nigeria’s Corporate Services Executive, Mr Akinwale Goodluck, the sum was incurred last year as cost of running telecoms installations, especially the Base Station Transceiver Stations (BTS).
He said inadequate supply of light gulped about 60 percent of its operation cost of doing business in Nigeria, despite the fact that its operations depend wholly on stable power source.
He added that the telecom company has continue to stagger under heavy cost of diesel used to run generating sets at their cell sites.
