MTN South Sudan Expands Starlink Nationwide for Digital Access

MTN South Sudan has announced the nationwide rollout of Starlink services through its Customer Service Points and Connect Stores, marking a major milestone in the country’s digital transformation journey. The initiative, following a groundbreaking partnership with SpaceX’s Starlink in September 2024 and subsequent authorisation by the National Communications Authority, is expected to significantly expand internet penetration, support digital inclusion, and foster economic and social development across the nation.

    A New Era of Connectivity

With this launch, MTN South Sudan is positioning itself at the forefront of the country’s digital economy agenda. By making Starlink kits and subscriptions available across the country, the telecom giant aims to bridge South Sudan’s persistent connectivity gap, particularly in rural and underserved communities where traditional infrastructure has struggled to deliver reliable internet.

“This partnership with Starlink is a game-changer for South Sudan,” said Olutayo Egunjobi, Head of Enterprise Business Unit at MTN South Sudan. “It enables us to connect even the most remote communities with dependable internet access that can transform lives, empower businesses, and drive national development.”

    What Starlink Brings

Starlink, the satellite internet constellation developed by SpaceX, delivers download speeds ranging from 25 Mbps to 220 Mbps, with latency between 50 and 90 milliseconds. This level of performance enables seamless video streaming, cloud-based services, and other bandwidth-intensive applications that were previously difficult to access in many parts of the country.

For schools, hospitals, government offices, and small businesses, Starlink represents a powerful alternative to existing connectivity options. Its ability to provide fast, low-latency internet regardless of geography opens new possibilities for e-learning, telemedicine, e-commerce, and digital financial services.

    Supporting South Sudan’s Digital Vision

The initiative aligns with South Sudan’s national vision to accelerate digital penetration and foster economic empowerment. By expanding access to affordable, high-speed internet, MTN and Starlink are laying the foundation for greater innovation, improved public services, and stronger participation in the global digital economy.

MTN South Sudan has emphasized the importance of purchasing Starlink kits and subscriptions exclusively through its authorised channels to guarantee access to genuine products, reliable customer support, and uninterrupted service that meets Starlink’s operational standards.

    Driving Inclusive Growth

For a country still navigating the challenges of infrastructure development, this partnership signals a new phase in its digital evolution. Reliable internet access can stimulate job creation, expand educational opportunities, and connect local entrepreneurs with regional and global markets.

By combining MTN’s extensive reach with Starlink’s advanced satellite technology, South Sudan is taking an important step toward narrowing the digital divide and ensuring that connectivity becomes a driver of inclusive and sustainable growth.
