MTN Rwanda has announced the appointment of Somdev Sen as its new Chief Consumer and Digital Officer. Effective November 1st, 2024, Mr. Sen brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success from his previous role at MTN Uganda, where he served as Chief Marketing Officer for seven years.

Mr. Sen’s appointment signals MTN Rwanda’s commitment to enhancing customer experience and driving commercial growth in an increasingly competitive telecommunications landscape. His expertise in customer engagement, data-driven insights, and strategic marketing campaigns is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the company’s future direction.

“We are delighted to welcome Mr. Sen to MTN Rwanda,” says Mapula Bodibe, CEO of MTN Rwanda. “His passion for innovation and customer-centric approach aligns perfectly with our vision to lead the delivery of a bold, new digital world to our customers.”

During his tenure at MTN Uganda, Mr. Sen spearheaded transformative initiatives that significantly impacted the company’s growth and market position. Notably, he played a key role in doubling MTN Uganda’s customer base in the last six years, a testament to his strategic leadership and customer engagement expertise.

Mr. Sen’s contributions extended beyond marketing campaigns. He held key leadership positions, including General Manager Customer Value Management and General Manager Business Intelligence, demonstrating his comprehensive understanding of the telecom sector and his ability to drive growth through data-driven strategies.

“I’m extremely honored to have served MTN Uganda and worked with an amazing team and the wonderful people of Uganda,” Mr. Sen shared in a heartfelt message upon his departure. “I’m confident that MTN Uganda will continue to thrive and remain unstoppable.”

As Mr. Sen embarks on this new chapter in Rwanda, he brings with him a wealth of knowledge and a passion for driving positive change within the telecom sector. His leadership will be instrumental in navigating the evolving digital landscape and ensuring that MTN Rwanda remains at the forefront of innovation and customer satisfaction.

“This new chapter in my life is taking me away from Uganda, but Uganda will never get away from me,” Mr. Sen affirmed, expressing his gratitude for the experiences and relationships built during his time at MTN Uganda.

In May 2024, MTN Rwanda demonstrated its commitment to environmental responsibility by introducing the nation’s first biodegradable SIM cards, known as “bioSIMs.” This initiative aligns with Rwanda’s Green Growth and Climate Resilience Strategy and the MTN Group’s broader environmental goals.

The bioSIMs, made from 100% Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper, are designed to reduce the environmental impact of plastic SIM cards, addressing a growing concern in the global telecom industry.
