Lifestyle technology company, Garmin, has partnered with MTN to launch a range of wearable tech watches into Ghana to encourage people to live a more active lifestyle. Garmin’s range of wearable tech watches are health and fitness watches that monitor and record daily activities to motivate you towards a healthier lifestyle, some are also smart devices that pair with your smart phone to display personal data, text messages and emails on your device.

“Our Garmin watches are supported by various mobile devices operating on Android, iOS or Microsoft platforms giving all customers the chance to get fit and healthy while staying connected.” Said the Business Development Manager for Garmin, Mike Clarke.

These devices monitor and record daily activities and motivate its user or customer towards a healthier lifestyle. Through Garmin’s mobile app, Garmin Connect members are able to review, relieve and share their activities and to track steps, goals, sleep, weight and calories burned.

Garmin Connect Mobile is an application designed to help you focus more clearly on your fitness and healthy living goals. All the data you rely on is easy to find and access on the app, you can also compare times or compete with friends on weekly step or running challenges. By using the app’s Bluetooth® connectivity links (with a compatible smartphone) you can receive current weather conditions, forecasts, voice call/text message notifications, and more – right on your Garmin fitness device.

The General Manager of Garmin Sub-Saharan Africa said: “It was the right approach to partner with the leading telecommunications provider to bring these innovative solutions into Africa where we have seen an increasing interest and adoption of healthy lifestyles by many people”.

The partnership and launch between Garmin and MTN generated much hype and positive coverage amongst the community of Ghana.

MTN offered a FREE 3 month 900MB data bundle deal for customers purchasing any one of the 6 Garmin products on offer from one of MTN ‘s pinnacle stores; Accra Mall, Osu High Street Mall, Osu Supreme store, West Hills Mall, Achimota Mall, Junction mall, Neiyaso Kumasi store, Takoradi main and MTN Accra Main store.

The Garmin product range included the vivoFit 3, your first step to wellness tracking your daily activity and sleep patterns, vivoMove an elegant timepiece that tracks steps, monitors sleep and syncs with the Garmin Connect™ Mobile app. The vivoSmart Smart Activity Tracker with Wrist-based Heart Rate Plus GPS. vivoActive a lightweight smartwatch with built-in Garmin sports apps that you can wear every day, Fenix 3 sapphire HR with GPS/GLONASS satellite reception and wrist heart rate technology sports watch, and Garmin Index smart scale that measures weight (lbs, kg, st), body mass index (BMI), body fat/water percentage, bone and muscle mass. All of these devices connect via Wi-Fi, allowing you to wirelessly sync data to Garmin Connect.
