Major telecoms company MTN is offering its subscribers free access to the apps of ecommerce platform Jumia and online hotel booking platform Jovago.
The Jumia deal was contained in the ecommerce platform’s recent announcement of its Zero Data app which it said would benefit about 70% of their customers who are already accessing the platform via mobile.
“In order to provide the best customer experience, it is time for Jumia to make its services available for more people, anywhere at any given time”, said Nicolas Martin, CEO Jumia Africa. “We are proud of this new partnership with MTN that will undoubtedly lead to an increasing value for our customers. We believe that a better internet access, and even more mobile, will foster economic development for both small businesses and Nigeria as a whole.”
For Jovago, the CEO of the company Paul Midy described the free internet access deal as a great milestone.
“This is a great milestone for us in order to offer great accessibility for the customer-centric mobile experience. We have noticed the immense growth of mobile internet penetration in Africa and remain focused on reaching clients across the world in order to offer them our services” said Paul Midy, CEO of Jovago. “Now, all MTN users can have access to more than 8 000 hotels in Nigeria and 25 000 hotels in Africa without cost and book in one click.”
There are indications that the deal may be extended to other companies under the Africa Internet Group umbrella
