MTN has completed a significant modernization of its Enterprise Value Analytics (EVA) platform in partnership with Microsoft, migrating it to Microsoft Azure in a move that enhances its data intelligence and operational agility.

The upgraded system, EVA 3.0, is now the largest telecom cloud implementation in the Middle East and Africa, processing around 22 billion records daily and running more than 800 analytics workflows from over 1,700 data feeds. Built on Azure Databricks and secured by Microsoft Defender, EVA 3.0 allows MTN to analyse and act on data faster, improving customer experience, network reliability, and operational efficiency.

“With EVA 3.0, we’re expanding our capabilities – analysing information more quickly, applying intelligence more effectively, and safeguarding it through advanced cloud security. Working with Microsoft, we’ve built a resilient platform that supports responsible AI and ensures we continue to meet the evolving needs of our customers,” said Nikos Angelopoulos, Chief Information Officer, MTN Group.

The move to Azure has already delivered noticeable improvements in data processing speeds and real-time analytics, giving MTN earlier visibility into service performance and customer trends. This helps the telecom giant resolve issues faster, design more relevant offers, and ensure a more consistent, high-quality service experience for its users.

Beyond South Africa, the EVA 3.0 platform serves as a blueprint for MTN’s data modernisation efforts across its African markets, showcasing how cloud and AI-driven analytics can improve decision-making and enhance service delivery.

“MTN’s adoption of Azure for its analytics backbone demonstrates what’s possible when global technology and local expertise work together. This collaboration is unlocking deeper insights, strengthening data protection, and accelerating digital transformation across the continent,” said Alkis Flemetakis, Telco Account Director at Microsoft.

According to Rick Lievano, Microsoft’s Worldwide Chief Technology Officer for Telecommunications, AI and big data analytics are central to the future of telecoms, enabling operators to optimise networks, personalise services, and explore new revenue opportunities.

MTN’s transition is supported by its Cloud Centre of Excellence and a group-wide team of engineers, which together achieved over 1,350 Microsoft Azure certifications in 2025 — the highest number by any organisation in Africa. This milestone underlines MTN’s long-term commitment to cloud expertise, digital skills development, and innovation.

Through this partnership, MTN is reinforcing its position as a leader in Africa’s digital transformation, using secure, data-driven technologies to build more reliable systems and inclusive digital infrastructure. The EVA 3.0 project reflects the company’s broader ambition to lead digital solutions for Africa’s progress, ensuring that cloud, data, and connectivity continue to drive opportunity and growth across the continent.
