MTN has become the first mobile telecoms operator to introduce the eSIM service in Nigeria and indeed West Africa.
eSIM simply means an embedded SIM card. It’s a small chip that’s used to authenticate your identity with your carrier. Unlike the physical SIM, you do not need to insert an eSIM into your phone as it is already built into your smartphone, device or wearable. No physical SIM cards are involved and no physical swapping required if you want to change your network.
The information on an eSIM is rewritable, which means that you can decide to change your operator with a simple phone call.
