The disagreement which led to a disconnection of over 77 million MTN subscribers from all banking channels, was as a result of the reduction in the commission offered to the commercial banks by the Telecom company.
A further report by Punch News gave that the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, and NCC, have intervened to help resolve the issue between the parties.
MTN has agreed to revert back to the 4.5% commission (from 2.5%). This will be confirmed in a meeting which is to be held on Tuesday, 6th of April 2021 by the Telecom company and the Banks. This was disclosed by MTN Chief Executive Officer, Karl Toriola, on Saturday in a letter addressed to the Chairman of Body of Banks’ CEOs, Herbert Wigwe, Toriola.
