    MTN and Ecobank extend cardless ATM services in Ghana

    Telecoms company, MTN and Ecobank, a Pan-African bank have announced a partnership aimed at extending cardless ATM services to Ecobank ATMs across Ghana.

    Through the partnership, about two million MTN Mobile Money subscribers will be able to access convenient, easy and instant money withdrawals Ecobank ATMs anytime and anywhere without requiring a card.

    The service is also available at all MTN branch offices, Ecobank, other partner bank branches and more than 8,000 other merchant points nationwide.

    To access the service, subscribers need to dial *511# on their phone and generate a token for the withdrawal. The token number is then used to withdraw the money at any Ecobank ATM in Ghana. Each token generated can only be used once.

    Senior Manager for MTN Ghana Mobile Money, Eli Hini, said the network is regularly looking for new ways to satisfy its millions of subscribers through its Bold New Digital strategy. He advised other financial institutions to emulate this initiative to enrich the user experience of customers.

    Owureku Asare, Regional Manager, Cards and Electronic Banking, (Ghana & WAMZ), Ecobank, said the partnership with MTN to offer Mobile Money customers the opportunity to perform Cardless withdrawals from over 200

    He said the branchless banking strategy would provide convenience that complemented the lifestyle needs of the Ghanaian. “Increasing access to banking services for Africans including the youth, under-banked and unbanked, with cheaper and more convenient financial services is at the heart of Ecobank’s strategy,” he added.
