Mozilla’s Firefox OS To Soon Hit Africa

    0
By Stephen Amaza on December 30, 2014 News, Products

FirefoxOS_for_press_releaseOn its blog, Mozilla announced that its newly released Firefox OS is about to expand to Africa. The mission-based organization announced that the Firefox OS ecosystem has gained support from three new key partners in the region: Airtel, MTN South Africa and Tigo (operated by Millicom) which will be the first carriers working with Mozilla to soon bring first Firefox OS smartphones to Africa.

As of today, Firefox OS has launched with local partners in 25 markets across Europe, Latin America, Asia and Australia. With the upcoming move into the African region, Firefox OS will soon be available on five continents.

What is different about Firefox OS is simple – every app in Firefox OS including the Camera and the Dialer is a web app, i.e. a website in the form of an app. You can think of it as something more like a browser running on a very lightweight Linux-based operating system.
