Mozilla has launched a feature Firefox Send, a self-destructing file sharing service. The latest feature has been in beta since 2017 and was officially launched on Tuesday.
Users with Firefox Send can send files up to 1GB for free and have their file size capacity bumped up to 2.5 GB on one condition if they sign up for a free Firefox account. One good news about this package is that there are currently no paid options.
It is good to note that files on Firefox send are short-lived as each file link expires after a certain period or a number of downloads.
How to get started with Firefox Send
- User goes to the website and uploads files they would like to share right on the main page. Note: No login is required except the user wants to take advantage of the extra storage from a Firefox account. Good news: There are no pop-ups or advertisements.
- After a file is downloaded, users have the option to have the download link expire in 5minutes or after one download. Firefox sends also allows links to remain for as long as 7days or 100 downloads. Note: The service forces users to pick timeframe and a download limit and the file link will expire after whichever comes first.
- Users are also given the option to password-protect their private file link. After that is set, an encrypted file link is provided for easy sharing.
According to Mozilla, a beta version of a Firefox Send for Android app will be available later this week.
