A new word was introduced into the modern day terminology when Apple unveiled the iPhone 11 and the iPhone 11 Pro at an Apple event recently and it is called a “Slofie”. And now the company is trying to trademark the word in America, potentially giving it control over the word’s usage.
A Slowfie is actually coined from the phrase “Slow-motion Selfie”, a feature that’s new to the iPhone 11 models. It refers to the ability of the iPhone 11‘s new front-facing camera to film users in slow-motion. The iPhone 11 has Slo‑mo video support for 1080p at 120 fps or 240 fps.
According to Apple in its application, the word slofie is connected with any “downloadable computer software for use in capturing and recording video.” This means that the trademark wants to prevent any other company from making slofie-branded camera apps.
It is expected that Apple will make reference to this word in its future ads so as to completely own it.
