WhatsApp is working on a new way to allow users to transfer chat histories from iOS to Android.
This feature could be the solution to one of the biggest challenges the Facebook messaging service has had. You cannot officially transfer backup messages between iPhone and Android, except both phones are using the same operating system. Details of the feature under development have been appearing in the WhatsApp software since at least April.
The above screenshots were made available on Twitter by WABetaInfo, and they explain how the “Switch Chats to Android” on WhatsApp is possible on the iOS app. This confirms the possibility of transferring WhatsApp chats from iOS to an Android device.
Android has a built-in device to device transfer app known as Data Restore Tool that its Setup Wizard uses to copy files (such as photos, apps) from one phone to another, also from iOS.
This tool which was recently released on Google’s Play Store has been updated to version 1.0.382048734 and is now ready to copy chats as well as history files to WhatsApp from iOS to an Android device.
It is unclear what types of data users can transfer, however, XDA Developers suggests only WhatsApp chats among other things.
