Ghana electronic payment system (e-pay slips) system introduced by the Controller and Accountant General’s Department for public sector workers has recorded over 11,000 users at end of the last quarter (Q4) of 2013.
With this figure, the Ghanaian government expressed that the machanised payroll has received a lot of patronage from the public noting that more than 11,000 registered users can therefore access their pay slips on the internet.
In an interview with Ghana Information Services Department, the Assistant Control Account, Isaac Asare stated the number would go up before the end of the first quarter 2014.
Asare noted that the e-pay slip was introduced on October, 13 2013 at an annual conference of the department.
The E- pay slips would help workers view summary information of their pay slips online using their mobile phones or any internet enabled device, he said.
Mr Asare explained that “Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as well as head teachers and districts officers were given code numbers and registration numbers to start the registration. Staff who were IT inclined were also trained to help with the registration.”
“In the case of Secondary Schools, the Information Communication Technology (ICT) teachers were put in charge to register their staff and districts through demonstration in the registration process,” he said.
Workers on Government pay roll could access the pay slip under the website address, www.gogpayslip.com.
Asare reiterated that the site would help workers know in advance their gross, deductions and net payment before getting to the bank.
Pointing some challenges being encountered by the Department, he said that some people could not have internet access and as such used modems to register workers.
“Workers who register under such conditions are therefore charged for the service which should have been free. Some people also present bank accounts with more than 13 digits which the Controller and Accountant General’s software does not accept and this poses a problem,” he said.
