Fintech Moniepoint has announced an exciting expansion of its flagship “Women in Tech” initiative, now entering its fifth year. This program aims to empower women in Africa by increasing the number of internship opportunities from 10 to 15, thereby enabling more women to gain valuable hands-on experience in the technology sector.
In a recent statement, Moniepoint highlighted that the initiative is designed to address the gender disparity in technology while responding to the urgent global call for gender equality. Since its launch, the Women in Tech program has served as a transformative force, equipping young women with the necessary skills and confidence to thrive in a predominantly male industry.
By broadening the scope of the program, Moniepoint aspires to enhance gender inclusion and stimulate innovation within Africa’s technology ecosystem. The statement emphasized, “Moniepoint’s Women in Tech program seeks to address this imbalance by providing mentorship, practical experience, and career development opportunities in fields such as cloud engineering, backend engineering, data engineering, and user experience.”
This year’s cohort, aptly named the “Dream 15,” will participate in a six-month paid internship, where they will receive mentorship, essential work tools, branded gear, and the potential for full-time employment contingent on their performance.
Chinaza Nduka-Dike, Vice President of People Operations at Moniepoint, underscored the importance of the program, stating;
We are not just inspiring inclusion; we are creating sustainable pathways for women to thrive in tech. Diversity fuels innovation, and through this initiative, we are empowering women to take on leadership roles and shape the future of technology.
Through these efforts, Moniepoint is committed to fostering a more inclusive and innovative tech landscape in Africa, paving the way for future generations of women in technology.
