Midjourney, the AI-powered visual generation platform known for pushing the boundaries of imagination, has announced the alpha release of its highly anticipated V7 model, inviting the community to test-drive a host of powerful new features. From smarter text interpretation to image realism upgrades and game-changing iteration tools, V7 sets a new benchmark in AI-generated art.
Smarter, More Beautiful, More Coherent
The team behind Midjourney describes V7 as their most advanced model yet. Designed to deliver superior coherence, higher-resolution details, and enhanced texture rendering, V7 makes a noticeable leap in generating lifelike images. Whether it’s hands, bodies, or complex objects, the new model produces more consistent results with fewer common errors that have previously challenged AI-generated visuals.
Image prompts also see a significant upgrade, and text prompts benefit from improved interpretability, allowing users to express their creative ideas with more nuance and clarity.
Model Personalization Now Built In
One of the most revolutionary additions in V7 is the built-in personalization feature, enabled by default for all users. This functionality allows Midjourney to better understand what each individual user finds aesthetically pleasing. Unlocking personalization takes approximately five minutes and can be toggled on or off at any time.
“We think personalization raises the bar for how well we can interpret what you want and what you find beautiful,” the Midjourney team shared in their announcement.
Introducing Draft Mode: Speed Meets Creativity
A major highlight of V7 is the launch of Draft Mode, designed for rapid ideation. Draft jobs are 50% cheaper and render up to 10 times faster than traditional jobs. Though lower in quality, draft images retain the same aesthetic behavior and structure, making them an ideal tool for fast experimentation.
In a move that blends utility with user delight, Draft Mode also enables Conversational Mode and Voice Mode. Users can speak to the tool in natural language—“swap the cat for an owl,” or “make it nighttime”—and watch the image morph in real time. It’s AI creativity at the speed of thought.
Draft mode can also be activated with the --draft
command, and works seamlessly with modifiers like --repeat
.
Turbo, Relax & What’s Next
V7 is launching in two rendering modes: Turbo and Relax. While standard rendering is still being optimized, Turbo jobs deliver blazing speed at double the cost, while Draft jobs offer economy and iteration.
Some features like upscaling, editing, and retexturing will temporarily fall back to V6, but are set to be updated soon. Meanwhile, Moodboards and SREF (Style Reference) tools are fully functional with V7.
The roadmap promises new features every one to two weeks for the next 60 days, with a V7 character and object reference system expected to be a major milestone.
