While revealing the date for the release of Windows 10, Microsoft showed off more features to be expected from the new OS. In addition to cool new features like Cortana that are already expected, Microsoft also showed off Continuum and Edge.
Continuum is a new feature that makes it possible for work being done on one device to be transferred to another. Microsoft said in a blog post that
Continuum enables today’s best laptops and 2-in-1 devices to elegantly elegantly transform from one form factor to the other, enabling smooth transitions of your tablet into a PC, and back.
It will also enable new Windows phones with Continuum to be connected to a monitor, mouse and physical keyboard to make the phone work like a PC.
Windows Hello is a feature that is an alternative to passwords for logging into a system. It provides biometric authentication by recognizing a user’s face, iris or finger. After authenticating a user, the system greets the user by name and a smiley 🙂
Edge is a new browser that Microsoft is hoping will shake up the browser market. It is unclear if this is the browser that was first called Spartan or if it is a totally new concept. The new browser allows users to make markings and notes on web pages, like one would do a book. It also has the ability to share comments with friends on web pages through its own system. Microsoft says Edge will offer quick and personalized content due to its integration with Cortana.
