Microsoft has unveiled Bing Video Creator, a new feature within its Bing mobile app that empowers users to generate short videos from text prompts using OpenAI’s Sora model. This tool aims to democratize video creation by making it accessible to a broader audience, including content creators, marketers, educators, and casual users.
Transforming Text into Video
Bing Video Creator allows users to input descriptive text prompts, which the AI then transforms into five-second vertical videos in a 9:16 format—ideal for platforms like TikTok and Instagram. For instance, a prompt such as “In a bustling Italian pizzeria, a small otter chef kneads dough with his paws” would result in a short animated clip depicting that scene.
The tool is currently available on the Bing mobile app for iOS and Android users, with plans to expand to desktop and integrate with Copilot Search in the near future. Users can access the feature by selecting “Video Creator” from the app’s menu or by typing prompts directly into the search bar.
User-Friendly Features
Bing Video Creator offers two generation modes:
- Standard Mode: Free for all users, though it may involve longer processing times
- Fast Mode: Provides quicker video generation. Users receive 10 free fast generations upon initial use, after which each fast generation requires 100 Microsoft Rewards points.
Users can queue up to three video generations simultaneously and will receive notifications when their videos are ready. Generated videos are stored within the app for up to 90 days, allowing ample time for downloading or sharing.
Encouraging Creativity
Microsoft envisions Bing Video Creator as a tool to foster creativity across various use cases:
- Special Moments: Quickly generate visuals to commemorate events or milestones.
- Communication: Enhance messages with custom videos, making conversations more engaging.
- Exploration: Experiment with different styles and ideas, aiding in brainstorming and creative processes.
To achieve the best results, Microsoft recommends providing detailed and vivid prompts, incorporating specific actions, settings, and stylistic elements. For example, instead of a generic prompt like “a person walking,” a more descriptive prompt such as “a young woman in a red coat walking through a snowy forest at sunrise” would yield more tailored and visually appealing results.
Commitment to Responsible AI
In line with its Responsible AI principles, Microsoft has implemented safeguards within Bing Video Creator to prevent the generation of harmful or unsafe content. The system utilizes OpenAI’s existing Sora safeguards and incorporates additional protections, including content credentials and provenance based on the C2PA standard, to ensure transparency and trustworthiness in AI-generated videos.
Looking Ahead
Bing Video Creator represents Microsoft’s ongoing efforts to integrate generative AI into its suite of tools, following previous releases like Bing Image Creator and Copilot Search. By lowering the barriers to video creation, Microsoft aims to empower users to bring their ideas to life effortlessly.
As the feature continues to evolve, Microsoft plans to introduce additional functionalities, such as support for horizontal video formats, further enhancing the versatility and appeal of Bing Video Creator.
For those interested in exploring this new tool, Bing Video Creator is now available on the Bing mobile app, with broader availability on desktop platforms anticipated soon.
