You can now access Microsoft’s Word, PowerPoint and Excel, all in one app on your Android or iOS device.
Microsoft announced that it was opening up the new version of the Office app to the public to test.
The announcement was made at Microsoft’s Ignite Conference.
The app is available on Android as a public preview, while it is available as a beta through Apple’s iOS Test Flight program.
The app will allow users to create documents (with Ms Word), create spreadsheets (with Ms Excel) and create presentations (Ms PowerPoint).
The app also allows users to “snap a picture of a document” and convert it into an editable Word document.
Users will also be able to create & sign PDFs, as well as transform tables from a printed page into an Excel spreadsheet.
Microsoft reassures users that the condensed Office app will not be replacing the three respective apps.
Speaking to CNET, a Microsoft spokesperson said, “We know some users may only need to use one of the apps, and it is the consumer’s choice to install the app that best fits their needs.”
They added, “However, if you use all of the core apps, we recommend using this new Office app, as it means you only need to install one app – and it will actually take up less space.”
Microsoft Office products face steep competition from Google’s G Suite similar set of products.
G Suite tools are particularly more popular with iOS users than Microsoft’s offering.
