Microsoft Office apps now available on Meta Quest VR headsets

Users of the Meta Quest virtual reality headset, including the original Oculus Quest, Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, and the latest model, Meta Quest 3, now have access to the basic Microsoft Office suite.

As reported by Android Central, users can download applications like Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint from the Meta Quest store for free. This addition to the platform allows users to perform tasks such as writing reports, editing spreadsheets, and creating presentations directly in the VR environment.

This move was initially announced at the Connect 2022 event, where the company also promised users access to Outlook, Teams, and a Windows experience through an intended partnership with Microsoft. Users will need a Microsoft account to use the Office suite applications on their devices. The app files run on the cloud, are small in size, and can quickly be downloaded. They can also run concurrently to facilitate multitasking.

However, The Verge reports that the apps may not be fully optimized for virtual reality. Users may have to deal with tiny icons and other elements that don’t work well within VR, and the onscreen keyboard may be difficult to use, potentially necessitating external Bluetooth accessories for serious work.
